WHAT IS

VFP?

Our Mission

To shape…

 the individual for the family,

 the family for the community,

 the community for the world,

all for the glory of God.

Our Beliefs

God = The Chief End of Man

Everything starts and ends with God. Moreover, Apostle Paul says about Jesus Christ His Son, “all things were created through him and for him” (Col. 1:17). Thus, our purpose in life is not to “be happy” or “get rich” or “live comfortably” but to glorify God and to build His kingdom in all aspects of our lives, especially in the areas that take up most of our time (i.e. work, study, and family relations).

Family is the Foundation

Civilization depends not on the genius of the individual but on the strength and cohesion of the family. Today, families are in crisis, the advancement of science and technology masking the rot underneath. We must remind ourselves once again that family is essential for our survival and well-being, refuse to be complicit in a system that continues to weaken and destroy the family and God’s design for men and women, and work to rebuild what has been destroyed.

We Are the Body of Christ

Christ died for His church and awaits the fullness and unity of his bride. Our work on earth, as individuals and as families, is to build Christ’s kingdom. Christian families are to unite in actively serving and loving their neighbors, forming a supportive network rooted in love for one another and compassion for others.  This means nothing short of giving up our own wants and desires for the sake of others. It also means we do this in person. We are not an online community. We are a real, flesh-and-blood community.

Creation Mandate

God has given us a mandate to take dominion over the earth (Gen. 1:28). He gave Adam and Eve a garden to tend. We cannot overlook this important detail. It is not merely a symbol for all types of work. On the contrary, it is a very specific kind of work, one that we ignore at our great peril. There is great satisfaction and many benefits to health and life when we are in harmony with nature, working the ground and tending to our animals.

“Given the atomizing effects of modern life and the breakneck speed at which so much is changing, Vanguard Family Project exists to rebuild and fortify that which we are at grave risk of losing — the family.”

About VFP

Why Homeschool Co-op?

Homeschooling is the first step in putting the privilege and responsibility of teaching children back into the hands of the parents.

Homeschooling is a noble task, but rare are the dads and moms who can do it all alone. We need to help each other without forfeiting our primary role in teaching our children. Unlike many schools and co-ops that give lip service to this idea yet place the primary burden of teaching onto paid teachers, we are uncompromising in our belief that dads and moms are the best teachers, and we are here to support them.

Moreover, teaching our children involves far more than teaching them to read and learn various subject matter. The goal is the formation of character, and active parental involvement is indispensable in this endeavor. In fact, we’d argue that character development in our children (barring the rare exception) can only happen in the context of the family, which is a reason God designed us to be born into one.

Why Farming?

Farming offers an unparalleled educational experience, providing students with hands-on, real-world knowledge that extends far beyond the classroom. Engaging in farming activities exposes students to practical skills and essential understanding of agricultural processes, from planting and nurturing crops to animal husbandry and land management. This direct involvement fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world and the interconnectedness of ecosystems.

Furthermore, farming empowers individuals to take control of their food sources, allowing them to produce their own nourishment and gain insight into the origins of their sustenance. By participating in the cultivation of crops and the raising of livestock, students develop a profound understanding of where their food comes from, promoting healthier eating habits and environmental consciousness.

Lastly, farming cultivates self-sufficiency and resilience by reducing dependence on external food sources. Students learn valuable lessons in resourcefulness, problem-solving, and adaptability as they navigate the challenges and rewards of agricultural practices. This self-reliance not only strengthens individuals but also contributes to the sustainability and security of communities.

Why Classical Education?

Classical Christian education holds immense importance as it offers a rich and time-tested approach to cultivating character and wisdom. By studying the thoughts and ideas of individuals throughout history, students are exposed to a diverse array of perspectives, allowing them to develop empathy, humility, and a deeper understanding of the human experience. This broad survey of knowledge prevents intellectual myopia, encouraging students to think critically and engage with ideas beyond their immediate surroundings.

Furthermore, the rigorous nature of classical Christian education challenges students to articulate and defend their own beliefs, fostering intellectual rigor and persuasive communication skills. By engaging in dialectical discussions and grappling with complex philosophical concepts, students learn to navigate ambiguity with clarity and coherence.

In the end, classical Christian education is not merely about acquiring knowledge but about pursuing the good, the true, and the beautiful. It instills a love for virtue, wisdom, and excellence, equipping students to lead purposeful and meaningful lives grounded in timeless principles and values.

Why Workshops for Parents?

Workshops provide invaluable opportunities for parents to enhance their teaching abilities and create a supportive family environment. For dads, workshops focusing on leadership and family vision-setting empower them to assume a proactive role in guiding their families, akin to a CEO shaping the mission and vision of a company. By honing their leadership skills, dads can effectively nurture each family member toward shared goals, fostering unity and purpose within the home.

Similarly, workshops tailored for moms offer practical guidance in homemaking and cultivating a nurturing environment. Learning to take pride in maintaining a beautiful home instills a sense of fulfillment and creates a welcoming atmosphere for the entire family.

Moreover, it’s crucial for children to witness positive male and female role models, as these workshops provide opportunities for parents to demonstrate healthy and balanced partnerships, showcasing the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in family life. Overall, workshops serve as valuable resources for parents to develop essential skills and create harmonious family dynamics that promote growth and well-being for all members.

Why Entrepreneurship?

Learning entrepreneurship is crucial for both kids and parents as it instills independence and resilience. Acquiring the skills to build and manage a business grants individuals the freedom to chart their own paths, reducing reliance on traditional employment structures. Entrepreneurship also serves as a practical application of various academic and life lessons, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world experience.

Additionally, embarking on entrepreneurial ventures as a family fosters unity and strengthens relationships. By navigating challenges and celebrating successes together, families grow closer and develop a deeper understanding of one another’s strengths and abilities. Additionally, emphasizing the importance of providing valuable goods and services underscores the ethical dimension of entrepreneurship, instilling a sense of responsibility and integrity in both parents and children.

Ultimately, entrepreneurship offers a pathway to personal and collective growth, empowering families to create meaningful impacts in their communities while pursuing their passions and aspirations. By cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, families not only unlock their potential for innovation and success but also contribute to the greater good by delivering tangible benefits to their customers and society at large.

Why Community?

Intentionally building community within families holds immense value, as it fosters a network of mutual support and collaboration. By coming together, families can share their expertise and resources, such as assisting with homeschooling, sharing the abundance from gardens and farms, and providing support during times of need. This interconnectedness allows for a division of labor within the community, where each member contributes his or her unique skills and talents, thereby reducing reliance on external sources for basic necessities.

In addition, community-building strengthens social bonds and cultivates a sense of belonging and interconnectedness among families. Through shared experiences and collective efforts, families develop deeper relationships and a sense of shared purpose, enhancing overall well-being and resilience. Additionally, relying on the support of a close-knit community fosters trust and cooperation, creating a supportive environment where families can thrive and grow together.
